Gumball 3000 Toronto 2012
Toronto’s Fifth Avenue & Exotic Cars…Makes Sense.
Talk about being in the right place at the right time, here in Yorkville it’s Gumball 3000 Toronto 2012!
I had literally just bought my new camcorder the Canon XA10 and was out and about filming random stuff getting used to all its exciting gadgets and features. Gordana and I happened to be strolling through the Yorkville neighborhood and stumbled upon some exotic cars parked on the side streets.
Although this is not unusual being that Yorkville is considered the 5th Ave. of Toronto seeing expensive cars is not new.
However, the main streets that run through the Yorkville neighborhood being barricaded to prevent people from crossing them was. If someone had asked me in the past about the Gumball rallies that are held every year, I’d have asked them what the heck they were talking about. I wasn’t a fan of the rally or a keen follower of all the events and films. Until now!
Who is Maximillion Cooper?
Maximillion Cooper first started gumball 3000 in 1999. It’s an International 3000-mile celebrity motor rally that takes place on open roads. He had the idea to combine cars, fashion, entertainment, and music together to form the Gumball. The countries and cities change each year. The 2012 event was dubbed a “Sea to Shining Sea” route. And it started out from New York where the drivers registered their cars, to LA, and then stopping in places like Toronto, Kansas City, Indianapolis, Las Vegas
The Gumball 3000 Toronto 2012, mixes sexy supercars with art, music, and film. Created by Maximillion Cooper, Founder & CEO, Gumball 3000 Group was quoted as saying: “Gumball is about challenging tradition and taking a non-conventional approach to exploring and developing cultural and creative boundaries”
During the Toronto stop, most of the Gumballers spent the night at the Park Hyatt hotel in the Bloor-Yorkville area. Some streets had been shut down temporarily to accommodate most of the Gumball cars packed in a U-shaped row and fenced off from the public.
The crowds of fans were treated to the sounds of revving engines from the Gumballers.
The area was packed with all kinds of cars and people too. A few non-Gumball cars were able to slip by to join the rally, but they were turned back at the checkpoint.
The loudest arrival of the night was The Dudesons. They cruised in with their bright yellow red-lined “Dudeson’s Lifeguard” Nissan, and hung out from the windows, dressed in monkey suits and swim gears that matched with their car. Some well-known celebrities involved in the Gumball 3000 were; Eve, Xzibit, David Hasselhoff, Idris Elba
The Spirit of Gumball 2012 award went to Team Morgan Motor (Charles and Kiera Morgan).
